Lebron James Basketball Biography
LeBron James, one of the youngest and hottest basketball icons at the age of 22, currently plays as the Small Forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Standing 6'8" and weighing 250 lbs., LeBron has been viewed of having an "NBA body" even when he was still in high school. Nicknamed then as "Mr. Basketball", this superstar has already set his own game and marked his own name in the National Basketball Association (NBA). After being drafted in 2003, he bagged the following awards: Naismith Prep Player of the Year (2003), Rookie of the Year (2004), ESPY Best Breakthrough Athlete (2004), All-NBA Second Team (2005), NBA All-Star Game MVP (2006), All-NBA First Team (2006) and All-NBA Second Team (2007). He is now in his fourth year in the industry.
The King was Born (LeBron's biography)
Now known as "King James" or "The Chosen One" on the hard court, LeBron actually spent simple yet quite difficult early years. He was born on December 30, 1984 in Akron, Ohio to Gloria James, who was just around 16 years old then. For the first decade of this young superstar's life, mere survival for each day is a challenge itself. LeBron did not grow up with his biological father and did not have much involvement with him. He and Gloria were moving from one apartment to another for several years before Gloria married Eddie Jackson. Jackson served as LeBron's father figure all throughout. Although Gloria and Eddie do not have any romantic connection as of now, the two still fully support LeBron, just like what parents do.
Early Stardom (LeBron's High School Career)
LeBron attended St. Vincent - St. Mary High School (SVSM) and had that as training ground for his basketball career as the Fighting Irish's point guard. From his freshman year, he had been leading the team to state championships. Eventually, in his senior year, he led the team to the mythical high school national basketball championship with a 25-1 record. The only game lost was the forfeited game of the team.
LeBron snatched the spotlight in the basketball scene at a very early stage. In his junior year in high school at the age of 17, his name flashed in different news articles and sports magazine to be the first possible junior to be drafted to NBA. It was when he appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated that the name LeBron James was made known to public knowledge. LeBron's life made a 360 turn from being a just talented high school basketball player to a next-in-line NBA celebrity. The next thing he knew, there were already media personnel around his school trying to get an interview with him, the much talked about NBA superstar-to-be. With the help of the school's faculty and his high school coach, LeBron was able to maintain an almost normal junior and senior year. The issue regarding his contract signing for a product endorsement was an issue then. Since he was still in high school, he was not allowed to sign a contract or make money worth more than $100. Otherwise, he will be considered as a professional, thus, would not play as a part of the high school basketball team. After all the controversies, LeBron ended leading the team to the national championship. After graduating from high school, he signed the $90 million endorsement deal offered by Nike. At 18, LeBron is a full-fledged millionaire - straight out from high school.
The Epitome of a Hoops Prodigy (LeBron's strong and weak points)
LeBron is known for being one of the slammers in basketball. His smashing slam dunks were leveled with legends like Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Kevin Garnett and Vince Carter. He also took part in a special basketball DVD series showing off the great moves of NBA's great players.
Critics uphold LeBron's skills on the court. He is known for making difficult moves with such flair and performing those effortlessly. Offense turns out to be LeBron's mastered field. He is known for his versatility that he can play multiple positions in a game. The position "Point Forward" was actually coined to best describe the position fitting LeBron's abilities - a Point Guard and a Small Forward at the same time.
Although LeBron seems to have all the skills to compose a basketball icon, there are still some points that he would need to improve on. He is indeed a master of offense, however, it seems like the defense aspect is somewhat left behind. LeBron's free throw skills should also be enhanced. Some critics view him as someone putting up a show and tend to be flashy at times instead of just focusing on a solid game. Nevertheless, critics claim that it is still too early to judge LeBron's abilities because he is still in his early years of his NBA career. The good thing about the situation is that he has a lot more years to overcome these weak points. If he'll surpass these, nobody really knows what more can LeBron offer to the basketball world.
